Camp Coq Botanical Garden
The Build Haiti Foundation has consulted with the Cap Haitien Office of Tourism to seek its support for a botanical garden as a destination site for tourists interested in visiting the northern region of Haiti. BHF has received an enthusiastic response for the establishment of such a garden. Located on the outskirts of the village of Camp Coq, this Botanical Garden would provide employment for local Haitians as guides, gardeners, concession workers and souvenir artists. It would also help to educate the local community to the value of different kinds of trees and vegetation in general for both public health and economic use. Furthermore, the Camp Coq Botanical Garden would be a showcase for indigenous plant life in Haiti, and its design would assist in promoting environmental sustainability.

Cassava Bread and Plantain Manufacturing Center
The local production of plantain, yucca, and coconut – essential materials needed in the making of cassava bread and plantain chips – will be promoted by the Build Haiti Foundation. This Manufacturing Center will provide jobs for the local people in Camp Coq, who will be cultivating the plants and processing the harvest from these plants. Additional employees will be needed in the packaging, marketing and distribution of the cassava bread and plantain chips. Furthermore, this Center will boost the local economy since more residents of Camp Coq will have employment income to purchase items from entrepreneurs and other business establishments. Some of the profit from this Manufacturing Center will also be used to support the expansion and sustainability of the Botanical Garden.

Community Plaza Off Main Street in Camp-Coq
Next to Camp-Coq’s main street opposite the health clinic is a vacant lot which would be a good plaza location for the community to gather to play board games, converse, relax or even view an outdoor projection of a movie on an adjacent wall.
